Estimator Staffing for Data Centre Bids
What a Estimator does
An Estimator owns the pricing of a bid: taking off scope, building the estimate, chasing and levelling supply chain quotations, and presenting the number and its assumptions at settlement.
On Data Centre bids the electrical and mechanical packages dominate the value, lead times drive risk, and the commissioning scope has to be priced properly rather than carried as an allowance.
Strong Estimators work closely with pre-construction managers, planners and the commercial team so the price, the programme and the risk register tell the same story.

FAQs
Do Data Centre estimators need MEP experience?
Yes, in practice. The majority of the value sits in electrical and mechanical plant, so estimators without MEP pricing exposure struggle to build a credible number.
Is estimating a contract or permanent role?
Mostly permanent, since it sits in pre-construction teams, though contract estimators are used to cover bid peaks.
What software do estimators use?
Conquest, CostX, Bluebeam and Excel are the most common, alongside supply chain portals for quotation management.
